New Director of Football Appointed

Alloway- Football- Director

Alloway Football Club Inc. has great pleasure in announcing Mr Jim Cairney as Director of Football for the 2020 season and beyond. Jim will be another important part of the coaching and development puzzle as AFC moves into the future and Jim has ear marked many initiatives which will be implemented both on and off the field during the 2020 season.

Coaching History - Jim has been coaching since 1981 and is about to enter his 40th consecutive year of junior coaching (23 years of them in Bundaberg). Coaching juniors at every level both non-competition and competition age group teams in the Sydney Youth League, local representative teams (South Eastern Sydney & Bundaberg) and NSW State League youth League teams. During this time, he has been fortunate enough to win multiple premierships and grand finals. The most rememberable achievement for Jim was winning back to back grand finals in the NSW State League Division Two Competition.

Jim’s coaching background also consists of futsal where he has been instrumental in creating and running the Bundaberg Futsal Club for the past 9 years. During this time, he has been the head development coach, as well as representative coordinator for the Bundaberg Representative teams where they have played in Brisbane/state competitions, as well as at many state titles. Jim has also had the pleasure of coaching Regional Queensland teams at the FFA Futsal Nationals. Jim’s formation of the Wildcat elite programs, Grassroot and Development clinics during his time with futsal have skyrocketed them into a force within Futsal representative circles.

Playing History - As a player Jim played juniors in Sydney for Randwick PCYC. He was also a member of the South Eastern representative team. At 17, Jim captained the Queens Park Eastern Suburbs under 19 team in the New South Wales State League competition. Continuing to play for the club into its senior ranks before heading to the Sydney amateur League for two seasons.  Jim’s final move was to Bundaberg where he had continued to play until the right old age of 50.

Jim’s outlook and vision for the Alloway Football Club Inc. is development. His motto is “Development Equals Results.” “I want to take the club to new heights with new programs within the juniors, as well as creating more pathways for these players towards our seniors and beyond.” Jim explained “I will be working alongside all our coaches helping with their development and understanding of the game.”  Jim’s and AFC’s aim are to develop better players which will in turn build stronger teams and equal positive results.

New programs that Jim is hoping to introduce with support of the club is girl’s development.  This will include creating all girls’ teams, supporting and implementing school programs (boys and girls), providing football basics for grassroots players, as well as providing skills clinics and Futsal programs.  “These are only a few areas at present, however this is a great starting point to allow our club to head in the right direction. This will not happen overnight but with hard work and persistence we will continue to work towards our targets, which is more than possible”

The Alloway Football Club Inc. is looking forward to the challenges that lay ahead including the rebranding of our club, to ensure that the club has a bright future in the highly contested football market in the Bundaberg, Wide Bay and Queensland competitions. The club wishes Jim the best of luck for a fantastic 2020 season.
